The potato apple salad (erdäpfel salat) tastes almost the same if you don't add in potato at all. Some pieces of potato help reduce the sourness of apple. Also for Austrian fried potatoes, try coating it with egg mix before frying.
Austrian cakes are the best but I'll never risk my oven to experiment one.
